DEGREE IN PHYSIOTHERAPY

 

Presentation

The undergraduate degree in Physiotherapy grants a Bachelor degree, first cycle, and lasts for eight semesters, four years, in a total of 240 ECTS.  This education and training course was approved by the A3ES - the Assessment and Accreditation Agency for Higher Education - on May the 20th.

General Aims of the Study Cycle:

   - Technical, scientific, and human autonomy based on professional practice patterns and moral and ethical values.

   - High technical and scientific skill, supported by critical analysis, using clinical practice based on recent evidence and in a constant professional development.

   - The ability to perform a reflexive-based clinical practice in what concerns rehabilitation and the promotion of health, in different clinical situations and in different communities.

   - The ability to integrate in various health institutions in multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary teams respecting and acknowledging the skills and competences of other professionals.

  - Having a proactive, dynamic and innovative spirit, making contributions to the development of physiotherapy.

   - The ability of technical and scientific cooperation with national and foreign institutions.

   - Having the spirit to support the community with the aim of social-economical and cultural promotion of the institutions and respective regions. 

 

Learning Goals

Throughout the study cycle, the student will develop the knowledge, capacities, and specific skills in the autonomous performance of physiotherapy of excellence, both in rehabilitation and in the promotion of health and in the prevention of diseases, namely:

   - gathering and analysing the results of the clinical evaluation or revaluations in order to establish the diagnosis as far as physiotherapy is concerned and its prognosis.

   - knowing  how to define and prioritise the aims according to the clinical evaluation and revaluations and the patient’s expectations.

   - drawing up a contingency plan using the adequate techniques and clinical diagnosis based on current evidence.

   - knowing how to use /execute correctly, safely, and efficiently all therapeutic resources, techniques and methods.

   - recording and using with accuracy all data which results from the clinical practise, in order to promote scientific and clinical evidence, thus contributing to the increase of knowledge and recognition of Physiotherapy.
